Smoke and mirrors is a metaphor for a deceptive, fraudulent or insubstantial explanation or description. The source of the name is based on magicians’ illusions, where magicians make objects appear or disappear by extending or retracting mirrors amid a confusing burst of smoke. The expression may have a connotation of virtuosity or cleverness in carrying out such a deception.
No smoke and mirrors here, just high quality ingredients that make up a delicious margarita :)

On March 22 we've all been given permission to goof off. Tell your boss and your kids that it's National Goof Off Day! That will work, right?
Today is National Goof-Off Day. It’s not exactly a big-ticket holiday, but in a world filled with super-serious adults, this is the day we should celebrate 365 days a year.
So let’s take the Ferris Bueller philosophy and apply it to our adult lives whenever life gets too serious, complicated or demanding. How can we possibly be expected to handle life/work/parenting/home improvements on a day like this? The school-skipping, life-living character in the film put it best when he observed, “Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Today is National Fragrance Day...
How can I Celebrate Fragrance Day?
* Take a field trip! (Bring along some Stinky) - Get outside and get to smelling! Take a notebook with you and see how many different smells you and your family can come up with. This is a lot of fun and a great learning experience too.
* Send Free E-Greeting! Follow your nose... Fragrance is associated with the good things in life, flowers, food... So fill your sweetheart's or friend's day with sweet and fragrant wishes with our romantic and floral e-cards.

Happy Friday to all out GREAT Stinky Fans out there!
Today is National Supreme Sacrifice Day....This day honors people that have made huge sacrifices for the sake of others. Think back to what other people have done for you. It’s easier than you think. Some religions might be thankful for Jesus Christ, dying on the cross for their sins. Another example is soldiers, fighting for our freedom and rights. It can also just be your neighborhood fireman/police officer. Maybe your very own parents come to mind. Whoever it may be, we all have someone to thank.

What is Buzzard Day? Well, Capistrano has swallows, and Hinckley (a suburb of Cleveland) has buzzards, well turkey vultures but it doesn’t sound as cool to say Turkey Vulture Day, now does it? Who really knows what this day is all about, I just know if I was alone in the desert a buzzard would be the last thing I would want to see!!!

Today is National Johnny Appleseed Day
"Johnny Appleseed, what's he ever done for me?" / Pssh. Oh nothing much he only invented apples. / "No he didn't. That doesn't make sense." / You're smarter than I thought. Fine, his name was John Chapman and he traveled west across America, planting apple trees and selling apples along the way. / "Right. I think I remember this now." / Perhaps you should plant an apple tree so you never forget again. / "Seems a little extreme."/ Maybe just eat an apple.

Enjoy the day by just being out right NASTY to whoever,whenever and wherever you want!

Sure, at the end of the day you might not have any friends left, but they were cramping your style anyway.

March 7th is National Crown Roast of Pork Day
* 2 teaspoons dried thyme
* 2 teaspoons salt
* 1 tablespoons vegetable oil
* a 12-rib crown roast of fresh pork (about 6 3/4 pounds)
* Dirty Rice Stuffing
* 1/4 cup dry white wine
* 1/4 cup heavy cream
* 1/3 cup Creole mustard
* flat-leafed parsley sprigs for garnish
* cherry tomatoes for garnish
In a small bowl combine well the thyme, the salt, pepper to taste, and the oil and rub the mixture all over the pork, patted dry.
Arrange the pork on an oiled round of heavy-duty foil slightly larger than the bottom of the pork in the middle of a lightly oiled shallow roasting pan and fill the center of the crown with some of the stuffing, mounding it.
Roast the stuffed pork, the stuffing covered with another oiled round of foil, in a preheated 450 deg. F. oven for 20 minutes, reduce the heat to 325 deg. F., and roast the stuffed pork for 2 1/4 hours more, or until a meat thermometer registers 160 deg. F., or for 2 1/2 hours more, or until a meat thermometer registers 170 deg. F., for well-done meat. In a 2-quart shallow baking dish bake the remaining stuffing in the 325 deg. F. oven during the last 30 minutes of the pork's roasting time.
Transfer the pork to a platter and let it stand for 15 minutes.
While the pork is standing add the wine to the roasting pan, deglaze the pan over moderately high heat, scraping up the brown bits, and strain the mixture through a fine sieve into a small saucepan. Add 1/2 cup water and boil the mixture until it is reduced to about 2/3 cup.
Add the cream, boil the mixture, stirring, until it is reduced to about 3/4 cup, and whisk in the mustard and salt and pepper to taste.
Discard the foil from the stuffing, arrange the parsley and the tomatoes decoratively around the pork, and serve the pork with the mustard sauce and the remaining stuffing.

Same stuff, different day. If you find that you've grown bored with your routine, today's the time to shake things up. And we don't mean having cereal instead of toast in the morning. We mean real change. Learn to play the tambourine. Start growing your own vegetables. Climb Mount Everest. Well, maybe you don't need to worry about Mount Everest yet. But someday...

Instead of chowing down on some pork, we here at Stinky recommend celebrating National Pig Day by...well...not eating them! Instead, you could help support an organization that cares for abandoned pigs, like Pigs Animal Sanctuary or Pig Pals Sanctuary, or a pig adoption organization like Pig Placement Network. You could even send an adorable e-card to your friends to spread the piggy love. If you do find yourself extremely hungry on this National Pig Day though, you could always ditch the bacon and grab some free pancakes since today is also IHOP's National Pancake Day.
